Programming PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Dreams Unlimited offers three different programs.  Feel at ease to review these programs as well as information on our daily routine, themes, and menu planning.

To start, have a look at several days of programming to review our daily documentation to parents and education of children. As you can see, we provide a description of the activity and the outcomes achieved:

Infant Program

Our infant program offers a warm and nurturing environment for 6 babies (between the ages 4 weeks and 24 months) by two staff members. Our staff focus on responsive care, attending to your child’s individual needs. We provide a variety of age-appropriate activities and learning materials (i.e. art, story time, music, sensory exploration, large motor play, and small motor play). The infants day includes a balance of quiet and active periods both indoors and outdoors.

With our infant program communication with you, the parent/guardian is a priority. A daily information sheet will be completed, summarizing your child’s activities including:

  • number of bottles drunk,
  • how much food eaten,
  • number of naps and the length of each,
  • when diapers were changed and,
  • and any other comments about your child’s day.
Also, please feel free to provide our staff a record of your child’s daily routine, likes and dislikes, or some handy notes that will help us know your child’s needs and preferences.

After completing the infant program you will receive a book made by the staff. This book will be filled with pictures, art samples, and information about your child’s experiences while in the infant room.

Toddler / Pre-School Program

Our Toddler / Pre-school program provides a fun, educational, and developmentally appropriate environment for children ages 24 months to 5 years. Staff work together to thoughtfully plan and implement daily activities based on a weekly theme. The children learn and build friendships within a play based environment. While learning through play, the children are able to independently choose from a variety of activities (i.e. art, music, science, children literature, sensory exploration, dramatic play, block building, language, math, large motor, and small motor activities). Also, each day the children gather together for group time where they discuss and learn about the weekly theme.

As another means of ongoing communication between parents/guardians and staff, a parent resource board will be available. This board will contain information that may be of interest and also a daily message stating something that your child would have experienced while with his/her group. Often when children are asked what did you do today they often say “I don’t know” or “I played”. Now you will be able to talk and ask about something that your child actually experiences daily.

Furthermore, our goal at Dreams Unlimited is for the children to be engaged in a project based on the groups interest each season.  Projects allow the children to fully explore a subject by becoming investigators within their own environment, involving three stages (what do you know, what do you want to know, and what have you learned).  Past projects have included hatching chicken eggs, exploring how bones heal if broken, and the properties of mud and how it is useful in our environment.

School Age ProgramSchool-Aged Program

Our school age program is provided for children ages 6-12 years of age before and after school. Planning and implementing will be based on the children’s interests, promoting an atmosphere where friendships can grow and develop (i.e. photography, space, computers, dinosaurs, sports, etc.).  And, yes, it does include some outdoor and fun time for the kids who have been indoors most of the day!

Daily Routine

We recognize the importance of routine and structure within an emergent curriculum (based on the children's interest).  For this reason, our daily schedule is as follows:

Time Activity
6:30 a.m. Active Learning/Quiet Time, if needed (The children independently choose activities that have been thoughtfully planned and placed out based on the weekly theme.)
8:45 a.m. Group Meeting Time, where the educator and children discuss the activites for the day.  Activities consist of art and a minimum of 2 other learning centres.  Immediately after themeeting the educator will set up the environment.
9:00 a.m. Snack Time (This is set up as a scattered snack time where the snack is placed out and the children independently choose to have snack instead of the entire group all having snack at once.)
10:00 a.m. Circle Time (This is a group time that is teacher-directed in which the children discuss and do activities to further their learning about the chosen theme.)
10:30 a.m. Outdoor Activities (weather permitted) or Large Motor Activities
11:45 a.m. Lunch Time
1:00 p.m. Yoga Time/Story Time
1:30 Nap/Rest Time
2:00 Learning Centres reopen and children continue with previous activities.
3:00 p.m. Group Snack Time
3:30 p.m. Outdoor Activities (weather permitted) or Large Motor Activities
