The history of the Centre is much like the name of the centre: about dreams. Elizabeth had a dream to bring her passion of quality education and care to children into reality. She has taken her experience and education to create an unique and fresh environment for children to grow to their fullest potential. In doing so, there have been some challenges but the rewards of fighting for something you believe in and having a role in children's education has made the efforts all that more worth while.

November 21, 2005 - City of Summerside denies application to increase space from
10 kids to 15
Elizabeth continues to address the importance of Infant Care in the City of
Summerside. The City denies her application to increase the size of the daycare from 10 children to
15 children in order to accommodate infant care in Summerside. This was despite the fact that the
overwhelming majority of people in her community signed a petition to say they were in favour of this increase.
Elizabeth files an appeal with IRAC and this story is covered by the newspapers, radio, blogs such as "Summerside City Council has got to go!", and television news. Editorials and letters to the editor are published, all supporting Elizabeth's dream to offer infant care.

Elizabeth Trenholm and Ken Trenholm v. City of Summerside
Pursuant to Section 28 of the Planning Act, Elizabeth Trenholm and Ken Trenholm have appealed the November 21, 2005 decision of the City of Summerside to deny a request for an amendment to increase the number of children for a daycare centre from 10 to 15 children at 2 Darby Drive in Summerside.
The appeal will be heard commencing at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 in the Commission’s Hearing Room, Suite 502, 5th Floor, National Bank Tower, 134 Kent Street, Charlottetown.
Interested persons may attend appeal hearings and be heard.
March 21, 2006 - Decision of IRAC: City treated Elizabeth unfairly
In a color, front-page article entitled, "Trenholm learns the ABC of battling city hall" in the
Journal Pioneer:
"IRAC stated Summerside council's compromise decision in 2004 to permit
the day care centre in a residential area, but with only 10 spaces, "appeared to be heavily influenced"
by a neighbourhood petition against the facility."...."The meetings held in 2005 strongly indicate that the
council acted in an unfair manner towards the appellant's amendment application.
This is not to say that the council went so far as to act in bad faith. However, the commission is of the
opinion that council exercised its discretion in an unfair manner".
